Privacy notice
Short version: an adult (a parent or guardian, or an adult learner) owns the account, we keep only what the lessons need, we never sell it, and you can delete it all yourself.
Last updated October 28, 2026.
Who the account is for
Homeroom History accounts belong to an adult who is 18 or older: either a parent or legal guardian who adds their students, or an adult learner (for example, someone studying for a CLEP exam) signing up for themselves. Students under 18, including children under 13, never create accounts or give us an email address; a parent or guardian signs in and adds each student inside their own account. When you create an account you confirm you are 18 or older and either a parent or guardian or an adult learner, and agree to this notice.
What we collect
- Your email address, to sign you in (we email a one-time code; there is no password) and, only if you tick the box, to send news about new episodes.
- Each student’s first name or nickname and grade (for an adult learner, also whether they’re a parent learning alongside a student or studying for the CLEP), so you can tell their progress apart. Please don’t enter full names.
- Lesson progress for each student: which checkpoint questions were answered and how many tries it took, how far into each video they got, minutes of video played, checklist ticks and completion dates.
- Sign-in records: a sign-in cookie (so you stay signed in for up to 30 days), the date you agreed to this notice, and short-lived security records: scrambled sign-in codes, and counts of sign-in attempts per email and per network (IP) address, used to stop abuse and removed automatically, usually within a day.
We do not collect students’ emails, full names, birthdays, photos, addresses or locations. There are no ads, no advertising or analytics trackers, and no selling or sharing of your information.
Why
Only to run the site for your family: to show each student where they left off, to build your progress report and hours log, to unlock the printable packs, and to keep accounts secure.
Who helps us run it
- Cloudflare hosts the site and the database where your account is stored.
- Resend delivers the sign-in emails.
- Kit (our newsletter service) receives your email only if you opt in to the newsletter.
- YouTube plays the lesson videos inside the page. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, but YouTube may still set cookies once a video plays, under Google’s own privacy policy. We don’t send YouTube any account details.
How long we keep it
Your account and your students’ progress stay until you delete them. When you delete them they’re removed from the live database immediately; our hosting provider’s automatic database backups roll off within 30 days, and we don’t restore deleted accounts from them. Sign-in codes expire after 15 minutes and, like the sign-in attempt counts, are removed automatically, usually within a day. Sign-in cookies expire after 30 days.
Your choices: see, change or delete
- See it: your dashboard shows everything we keep about your students, and you can download it as a spreadsheet.
- Change it: rename or remove a student, or reset a lesson, at any time.
- Delete it: on the dashboard, Delete my account and data permanently erases your email, all student profiles and all progress from the live database straight away (automatic backups roll off within 30 days). If you were on the newsletter, it also unsubscribes you.
- Newsletter: every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link.
Questions
Email [email protected] and a real person (Eli) will answer. If you think someone under 18 has created an account without a parent or guardian, tell us and we’ll delete it.
